VLS Users Conference 2004-2006

GIS industry and government leaders gathered in mid-September, for the annual VLS Users Conference to share their thoughts on the VLS software, Feature Analyst® and LIDAR Analyst®, as methods of empowering mapping efforts in vital application areas such as Homeland Security.

“I found this conference to be truly helpful not only in my work with NGA and IEC but applications being made by the US Forest Service and NCDC,” said an attendee from the 2005 conference. “So much of the discussion revolved around NGA and DoD uses with Feature Analyst that I hope to convince other IEC counterparts of mine to attend next year.”

Representatives from VLS as well as partners Leica Geosystems, Battelle/PNNL and a list of other organizations presented discussions on the theme of “Advances in Automation” with topics including: forestry, defense, 3D feature extraction and more. Attendees had opportunities for free one-on-one consulting, many of whom also participated in the more in-depth two-day training course. They also had opportunities to learn elsewhere, with exhibits from organizations such as BAE Systems, Intergraph and ESRI.

"I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to use and apply the Feature Analyst software," said a 2006 attendee. "It was also a great opportunity to meet analysts from other agencies. Your hospitality and generosity was tremendous. I hope to attend again in the future."

Entertainment at the 2005 and 2006 conferences included a hosted social on the evening prior to the conference opening, a catered, outdoor BBQ dinner with Eden Atwood and her Grand Poobah band, a whitewater rafting trip, fly fishing and multiple hikes.
