Missoula, called the San Francisco of Montana, is situated at the heart of western Montana's stunning natural landscape. Missoula offers endless action with a variety of outdoor activities and social events ranging from hiking and fishing to entertainment and art.

This page features a number of links to help you find what you're looking for. Feel free to contact sales@vls-inc.com at any time for resources and recommendations regarding local attractions or dining and hotel accommodations in Missoula.

Recreation

Outside of the scheduled conference activities, VLS has arranged a variety of opportunities for conference attendees to experience Montana's great outdoors, providing ample opportunities for networking as well as recreation.

Hiking & Biking

At least two hiking excursions will take place as part of the scheduled conference events. Countless trails exist within a 10-mile radius of the city, including the 59,000-acre Rattlesnake National Recreation Area and Wilderness just north of Missoula, not to mention the spectacular Glacier National Park, a three-hour drive from Missoula.

Rafting

White water rafting will be available to all who attend, provided by Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures. Alberton Gorge is a premier whitewater run on the Clark Fork River, with stunning rock formations and dramatic argillite cliffs rising vertically on both side of the river. It is a great opportunity to view wildlife such as osprey, eagles, moose, elk and bears.

Fishing

If you would like to fly fish, Montana is the place to do it. Missoula is near the Gallatin river, the Clark Fork river, the Bitterroot river and Rock Creek - a blue ribbon trout stream. Current fishing conditions and general information are available here. Guided fly fishing opportunities are available from Classic Journey Outfitters and elsewhere.

Experiencing Missoula

Folf, or disc golf, is one of Missoula's favorite pastimes. Local folf courses, always open and always free, include the forested Patti Canyon recreation area and the hilly Blue Mountain recreation area.

Outdoor-loving Missoulians are ecstatic about the new whitewater kayaking desination, situated right in the bed of downtown Missoula. Brennan's Wave offers year-round surfing.

Local rock climbers go to the Lolo Hot Springs area, 40 miles from Missoula, for outdoor climbing and bordering. Plus, they enjoy the variety of indoor climbing facilities in town.

Missoula golf courses include Highlands Golf Club, Larchmont, Linda Vista, Missoula Country Club, and The University of Montana Golf Course.
