VLS WINS PRESTIGIOUS TIBBETTS AWARD

SBIR Recognizes VLS with a 2006 Tibbetts Award

VLS is one of the select few recipients of the acclaimed Tibbetts Award, a national award given annually to those small firms, projects, organizations, and individuals that exemplify the very best in SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) achievement. The award ceremony took place in September, 2006, in Washington, DC.

The Department of Defense (DoD) SBIR program provides funding to small technology firms and individual entrepreneurs for early-stage R&D. Roland Tibbetts began the SBIR program as an experimental unit at the National Science Foundation, reaching out to more than 15,000 firms, developing more than $17 billion worth of research, and earning more than 45,000 patents.

The Tibbetts Award is the only national award given in recognition of outstanding performance as a SBIR grant recipient. In selection for Tibbetts Awards, the focus is primarily on: (1) economic impact of technological innovation; (2) business achievement and effective collaborations; and (3) demonstrated state and regional impact and proven support.
